Hi:
This is the driver you need for that device...

HP Compaq Pro 6005 Small Form Factor Upgrade Issues; Windows 8.1 & Display Adapter
Our business has three HP Compaq Pro 6005 desktop PCs.
The computers are around five years old with the following basic specifications:
*AMD Athlon X2 B22 2.8GHz, Regor
*HP 3047h motherboard (socket AM3)
*AMD 785G (RS880) + SB750/710 chipset
*4GB PC3-10600 DDR3 SDRAM
*160GB 7200 RPM SATA Western Digital hard drive
*Windows 7 32-bit
Recently I decided to upgrade one of these PCs with the following:
*16GB PC-10600 DDR3 SDRAM (G Skill)
*256GB SATA Crucial Solid State Drive
*Windows 8.1 64-bit (clean install, old hard disk removed)
Everything went well with the exception of the display adapter. Windows Update did not detect the Radeon 4200 and did not install appropriate drivers.
The Display Port does not function, and the maximum resolution supported is 1280 x 1024. Installing the Catalyst display drivers from AMD's website does not work--attempting to open the Catalyst Control Center even gives an error message that there are no supported products.
I tried downloading the display driver from HP's website. Ominously, Windows 8/8.1 was not even listed as have available operating system. I tried both the Windows 7 64-Bit Home Premium and Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit display drivers.
Neither worked.
What is wrong? Is there a solution? This is important to me as I wish to upgrade my other HP Compaq 6005s in the same way. Do I need to upgrade the BIOS or firmware in some way?
Additionally, I wish to upgrade the processor. Socket AM3 supports AMD Phenom six-core processors. However, I've heard horror stories of HP locking the BIOS to make it impossible to upgrade processors. Is there a list of supported processors for the HP 3047h motheboar?
Re: HP Compaq Pro 6005 Small Form Factor Upgrade Issues; Windows 8.1 & Display Adapter
Hi:
The only suggestion I can offer for the graphics is to try manually installing the W7 graphics driver as follows...
Download and run this driver file...close out of any error windows.
Go to the device manager and click on the Microsoft Basic Display adapter needing the driver. Click on the driver tab.
Click on Update driver. Select the browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file.
That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp58733. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and see if the driver installs that way.
If that doesn't work, go back and choose the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer and drill down to the specific graphics adapter shown on the list and see if the driver installs that way.
Another alternative would be to puchase some AMD Radeon HD 6450 graphics cards for your PC's.
Low profile with low profile brackets if you have the SFF desktop. Those cards will work fine in the 6005 and have driver support for W8.1/W10.
I can't answer your question regarding upgrading the processor.
Re: HP Compaq Pro 6005 Small Form Factor Upgrade Issues; Windows 8.1 & Display Adapter
Thank you for your response, Paul.
I tried you solution and it did not work. I have thus ordered a low profile GeForce 720 graphics card. While inexpensive, it is an expense that should have been unnecessary.
As there is no hardware difference between the chipset on the 3047h motherboard and that which AMD sold to other motherboard manufacturers, this means that HP modified the firmware to ensure it would ONLY function with an HP provided driver. And as HP has refused to provide a driver for Windows 8/8.1 while ensuring the Windows 7 driver will not work, this makes it impossible to upgrade the machine to a new operating system without purchasing a graphics card.
And come to think of it, years ago when I was teenager, we had an expensive HP server in which one of the hard disk drives failed. I tried replacing it with a hard drive I got off of Newegg, but it didn't work. Why? HP had modified the storage controller firmware so it would only work with HP-branded hard drives. The HP-branded hard drives were no longer manufactured, so we had to throw out the entire server. HP doesn't even manufacture hard drives!
My conclusion is that HP is a criminal organization engaged in a criminal conspiracy against its own customers. Now exactly why HP hates its own customers and wishes to make our lives inconvenient is open to debate, but it is a fact.
So I have now implemented a new company policy. Effective immediately, no one is allowed to purchase an HP desktop, workstation, or server for any reason at all. And unless there is no alternative at all, our personnel are not to purchase HP laptops, printers, or other HP products unless there is no alternative.
Finally, while I expect nothing to come of this as HP and HP executives donate more to politicians than I do, I will be filing a complaint against HP with the Federal Trade Commission for illegal restraint of trade. HP's criminal practices remind me of the automobile manufacturers in the bad old days before Congress passed lemon laws, right-to-repair laws, and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (incidentally--this law applies to PC manufacturers as well and is violated by them as a matter of policy).
I will also write and mail a letter to HP's CEO Meg Whitman detailing this to her and why I and the organization I work for will no longer do business with HP. As Meg Whitman is a vainglorious, incompetent lardass who doesn't know the difference between a byte and a bite of cheesecake I am not expecting much.
I predict that HP will not exist a decade from now. How in the hell does HP expect to survive in a globally competitive industry with razor thin margins when they have no unique technology, no brand value (destroyed by Carly Fiorina--another vain idiot), and they delight in abusing their customers? A sad decline and fall of a once great American corporation.

Memory Upgrade - HP PRO 3120MT
Goodafternoon everyone,
One of my clients wants to get an memoryupgrade for their HP Pro 3120 MT Business model.
I've search far and wide for compatible RAM but I cannot find any definitive answers,
the default RAM isnt being sold anymore, (except for refurbished suppliers, but I'd rather get a new stick).
Default ram = 497157-D01
Is there a list with compatible memorysticks for this machine?
Re: HP DC7700 cpu upgrade to Pentium E5700; E6700 or Core2Duo E8400
Hi, I have checked this blog in the past when I first aquired a few dc7700 sff's to do CPU updates, and now decided to order a couple e6700s to test. Have upgraded to 1.16 Bios and 1.06 Microcode. Passmark benchmarks rates a E6700 at 1698 and stock E6300 at 1127.
dc7700 ssf's support 8 gb of DDR2-800 memory, even though old spec says 4 gb max.
Have a GT720 PCI-e x16 2gb video card running with 3D Blueray/DVD drve to watch 3D movies on Samsung smart 3D HDTV, works flawlessly. Running an Samsung 840 SSD and I tb Seagate drives, getting a Win8.1 WEI of 5.1 rating. Other 7700s with 4gb Ram, GT210 video and stock 80 gb WD hard drive yields 4.1 WEI on Win7.
What is the ver 3.07 Bios, how does one tell if a 7700 supports vPro? and does a person need it for running a home PC?
SIW reports 786EI, but have no utilities to show whether it runs vPro. Don't know if it worth doing the update or not to support new CPUs. Any help would be appreciated and willing to share my results.

Colors on a Display on displayport are washed out
Hi,
I have a user running an HP Compaq Pro 6300 SFF and Windows 7 Pro, all the latest patches. We attached a second monitor to the display port using a displayport to VGA adapter cable and the image is all washed out. Things that looko light grey on the VGA port look white on the displayport. I've tried three different monitors, two HP L1911's and one L1910. All look the same, washed out on the displayport but look fine on the VGA port.
I also tried two different displayport to VGA adapters. The adapters are HP DisplayPort to VGA Adapters, p/n: 752661-001, purchased recently.
Any suggestions? We tried playing with the monitor settings but couldn't make it any better. Are there any settings in the system I should try? Different drivers perhaps?
Thanks in advance,
Linn
Re: Colors on a Display on displayport are washed out
Update: Tried running the monitor calibration in the Display control panel and found I could not adjust the Gamma sufficiently to reach the "Good gamma" settings. Could not adjust the contrast sufficiently to be able to see the man's shirt buttons either.
Still seeking a solution.

Dual Monitor video cards for HP Pro 3400
Hi,
I am looking to add a 2nd monitor to my HP Pro 3400 MT and want to make sure I get a video card that will not have any compatibility issues. I'm not doing any gaming so I don't think I need anything super fancy and I would prefer not to have to upgrade the power supply.
So my questions are:
- Is the HP Pro 3400 MT compatible witha PCI Express 3.0 card? 2.1 ? - I have determined that I have PCI Express 2.0 support on my motherboard and have read that PCI Express is forward/backward compatible but am I right in assuming there would be no value in getting a 3.0 card as it wouldn't be used to it's full potential?
- How much power draw from the video card would require me to upgrade the power supply (my PC is stock, no added peripherals). Is there a way for me to determine how much is being currently (no pun intended) drawn?
- Are there any drawbacks to usnig the built-in video card for 1 monitor and a new, single-ouput card for the other (vs a dual-output card) ?
- I have read other posts about people having various compatibility issues with different video cards. Many seem to be issues with the Bios version. Is there any way of determining in advance if my Bios will support a particular card?
- Anything else I need to consider when deciding on a new video card?
I'm considering a Visiontek - Radeon HD 5450 Graphic Card - 650 (seen here ). Are there any compatibility issues with this card? Would this be a good choice for business use?
Thanks.

Re: Bulk Warranty Lookup
Has anyone been successful in performing a bulk lookup of warranty information for their HP desktop/laptop/server fleet? Either by automating lookup to the HP website http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/wc/public/home or by submitting a list to HP and having them match against their database?
I have drawn a blank so far, including contacting our account manager.

Re: Colors on a Display on displayport are washed out
Solved, I think(?)... Talked to HP Tech Support and it turns out the HP DisplayPort Adapter we were sold isn't compatible with the model computers we have, go figure. Never would have guessed an adapter like this could have compatibility issues beyond the connector types.
Pulled an older adapter from another computer of the same modle and it looks much better.
Am now waiting on my vendor to get back to me about an exchange.
