Re: hp dc7800 2215-EIT Failure. VA boot record read failure

Hi, I've tried all bios setting unsuccessfully...

with any hard drive installed (new, old, formatted, with os installed) i'm unable to boot or install/format the drive.

with hard drive installed and enabled i'm unable to enter in mebx menù, for enter with ctrl+p i have to disconnect or disable hard drive first.

The pc worked without problem until the bios update to 1.32 version... after upgrade i'm unable to make boot....

I think that bios downgrade is not possible...

I've tried to change the AMT settings in mebx utility and set the standard boot mode, but under "intel amt configuration", the "VA Configuration" option is missing....

Please help me... I want to disable and remove all this settings!!!

Thanks

Andrea

hello, if you didnt have any problems before the bios update, you should install Windows clean install, with a windows dvd, this should put back to the original bios.

Try this or replace the battery from the motherboard.  Press f1 when your computer gives you the 162 message, and then try this, see attachment.

Sorry, but i think that the motherboard bios update has nothing to do with windows cliean installation....

Anyway i'm unable to boot from hard disk (old, new and SSD drive tried) or make a new os installation.... I want to disable VA, AMT, mebx ecc... and make a normal boot from normal hard drive.. can someone help me?

Thanks

Andrea

Some time has passed since I posted my original message, but unfortunately nobody had anything to share. Anyways, since I found a working solution by myself, I thought I would come back and share my findings with other users who may be faced with a similar situation.

I went ahead and purchased a PCI Express controller card (a StarTech PEXSAT32 -- a 2 port SATA 6 Gbps SATA Controller under $40). I installed the controller, turned on the computer, installed the drivers with the supplied CD (I run Windows 2003 Serve, but apparently no drivers are needed for Windows 7), powered off the computer, installed the drive, powered on the computer and voilà!, Windows could see the entire 3 TB of my drive. I converted the drive to GPT (as opposed to MBR) and could enjoy a nice 3 TB partition.

Some friends were very skeptical about the controller card approach and recommended that I go with an external USB HDD case, but quite frankly, not only was I afraid to loose too much speed, I did not like the idea of have an external HDD lying around the computer at all times. The StarTech PEXSAT32 along with the Western Digital WD30EZRX 3 TB hard drive made worked like a charm in my HP Compaq dc7100 CMT and will allow me to use this solid machine for a few more years as a small home office server, mainly used to share files.

Hope this helps!

HP6440b Bricked after BIOS update

Hi all.

Wondering if i can get some help.

Was updating the BIOS in my ProBook 6440b and all did not go well.  Now the laptop only shows a black screen, the caps lock LED just flashes continously, all other LEDs are lit except for NUM lock and after 5 seconds the fan goes from zero to full speed.  There are no beeps.

I have tried hard reset (pull battery, hold power button for 1 min), pulling RAM, pressing power on with WIN plus B and also (separately) holding down 4 arrows.  I have got the latest BIOS from the support site, put it on a USB stick and tried to get the machine to read the BIOS using the above methods.  No luck on any front.

Also tried the HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Support Environment but could work out how to get it to run and where to put the BIOS files.

Are there any sugesstions out there would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks in advance

Compaq dx2450 - upgrades

Hi,

 I have a compaq dx2450 / AMD Phenom x3 8600B

Until a month ago I only had 4GB ram, believing this to be the max -- but it turns out 8GB is working rather nicely with Windows 8.1 meaning it's still quite a viable system for general desktop use.

Out of interest are there any viable cpu alternatives beyond the 8600B. I know it's an AM2 processor, but no idea what the BIOS supports (5.63). I'd guess that's the limiting factor - other than cost effectiveness.

I may upgrade at some point - lightroom/photo editing being the main issue ....

With limited tech knowledge, I do not understand your posting:

"Problem is solved.

I was download and install EasyBCD.

Then I do BCD Deployment -> Install Win7 MBR bootloader -> Write MBR

After restart computer show problem with start, but after repair (from instalation DVD) everything is working ok."

Please kindly explain in detail.

Regards.

Pro3500 - Client Management and BIOS Instrumentation

I have a fleet of HP Pro 3500 desktops. There doesn't appear to be anyway to access the BIOS settings from the Windows OS. This used to be available via the HP CIM Providers on older models but the release notes mentions nothing of support for this model. Also, the BIOS configuration utility doesn't appear to work on this model. I wish to enable WOL on all my desktops (as it's disabled from factory) without having to visit each one. Can anyone help?

HP Compaq 6000 Pro - USB 3.0 & eSATA questions

I recently purchased the HP USB 3.0 4-port SuperSpeed PCIe x1 Card (QT587AA) and installed it in the back of my HP Compaq 6000 Pro as directed.  I then installed the software driver directly from the TI web site because it is newer than what's on the included CD.

The new ports are recognized, with no errors in Device Manager.  Everything "looks" good; the ports are working, in that they connect to my USB 3.0-compatible external hard drives, but the USB 3.0 speed is much less than anticipated, only about 3'xs faster, benchmarked using HD Tune Pro.  Is this normal, or am I missing something?

Likewise, I've installed a brand new Samsung 840 EVO SSD.  I used a SATA II "drive" cable from one of the optical drives to connect it internally.   It's definitely faster, about 212Mb/s vs. 87Mb/s for the old ST3160318AS drive that came standard with the 6000, so about 2.5x's faster, but again, not near expectations.

I notice there is an eSATA connector available on the motherboard (orange connector as specified here).  Should I use this drive connection instead, and will it give me faster read/write speed on the SSD, or does it matter?  I realize the 6000 does not provide full SATA 3 6Gb/s capability, but I'm still hoping all this money I just invested in USB 3.0 and SSD can be fully utilitized.

Any tips or advice would be great.  Thank you.

Brand new HP PRO 3500 Series MT (Part# D8C49UT#ABA) running Windows 7 64 bit. All USB ports working okay with backup drive, keyboard and mouse.

When I attack my brand new Audiobox USB I get the followng message: "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)."

There is nothing wrong with the Audiobox USB. It installed perfectly on my Lenovo IdeaPad also running Windows 7 64 bit.

Hi mates,

It was very strange because my Elitebook 8560w was missing 3 drivers.

They are:

1. Battery service

2. Immediate Alert

3. Link Loss

Could you please inform me how I can get those drivers?

My OS was Windows 8.1 64 bit

Thank you very much!

Hello, anyone still out there?

I can't figure out why, but applying defaults in BIOS does't work.

I got the Elite 8300 and i can't find the jumpers. Can one of you point them out for me? Appreciated.

Sorry can't find a decent pic.
